Opposition leaders barred from accessing ailing Dr. Kizza Besigye
Uganda prison authorities have denied opposition leaders, led by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, the opportunity to see the ailing Dr. Kizza Besigye in Luzira Maximum Security Prison. However, the leaders were allowed to see Hajji Obeid Lutale, a man who was arrested alongside Kizza Besigye in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, last November. The duo has been facing charges related to national security and unlawful possession of ammunition and firearms. DANIEL KIBET reports that prison authorities informed opposition leaders that Dr. Besigye was unable to leave his sickbed to meet them.
